Education for Sustainable Developments within the Technological University of Shannon

The main objective of this study is to discover and establish the most effective strategies for integrating Education for Sustainable Development within the Technological University of the Shannon. The research will introduce Education for Sustainable Development into the curriculum by employing a student – cantered active learning approach, emphasizing applied learning and the development of employability skills.

The wooden O Amphitheatre located on Kinsale Campus, Cork College of Further Education and Training was built by students and staff and is regarded as one of the greenest public buildings in Ireland. It began as an educational project responding to the needs of the Permaculture course to build a green building and the drama course to have a performance space in the college. Built from locally sourced natural materials, it is a cob and cordwood structure including sitka spruce, larch, recycled materials, and a turf roof.
