Michael Rice

Biography

In his professional life, Michael taught Irish and Economics for nine years in his former school, St Kieran’s College before moving to Coláiste Éamann Rís, Callan in 2017 to take up the roll of Deputy Principal. In 2019, he became Deputy Principal of Waterpark College, Waterford where he currently serves.

Michael was a member of the Kilkenny senior hurling panel from 2005-2016. He has won eight All-Ireland senior hurling medals, five National Hurling League medals,  two U-21 All-Ireland medals and one All-Ireland Minor hurling medal for which he captained the team in 2002. Michael received personal recognition when winning two All-Star awards in 2009 and 2011. He has also won an All-Ireland intermediate medal with his club Carrickshock and one All-Ireland Colleges medal with St Kieran’s College. He continues to play with his club Carrickshock. This year he has joined the Kilkenny U-20 hurling management team with his former Kilkenny colleagues Derek Lyng and Peter Barry.
