Rev. Dr Dermot Ryan

St Kieran's College

Since his appointment as President of St Kieran’s College, Dermot has worked closely with the Department of Education and Skills to facilitate the strategic relocation of two of the City schools and is currently working to deliver a major capital project at St Kieran’s College. This latter project will involve the challenge of blending the Colleges current historic buildings, it being the oldest Catholic Secondary school in the country (1782), with a modern build taking cognisance of the demands of modern education and the unique sporting tradition of the College, it being the leading hurling school in the Country (23 All-Ireland Senior Titles).

Having lectured in the Gregorian University Rome, Maynooth University and Carlow College, and being a past pupil of St Kieran’s College with strong links to the GAA Dermot is aware of the needs of modern education and the obvious benefits to it from sport and activity – where the fields of sport, positioned properly, increase academic capacity.
